Overview of the workshop, its purpose, and how trauma can affect emotions, behavior, relationships, learning, and a person’s sense of safety.
0:10–0:25 | What Is Trauma?
Understanding acute, chronic, and complex trauma, childhood adversity, instability, separation, abuse, neglect, loss, and why trauma may remain hidden.
0:25–0:45 | How Trauma Affects the Brain and Body
Discussion of emotional regulation, memory, concentration, trust, relationships, decision-making, and fight, flight, freeze, and shutdown responses.
0:45–1:00 | Recognizing Trauma Beneath Behavior
Learning how trauma may appear through anger, withdrawal, anxiety, defiance, avoidance, emotional outbursts, lack of trust, and difficulty concentrating.
1:00–1:10 | Guided Reflection Activity
Participants examine how they normally respond to challenging behavior and consider how trauma may be influencing what they see.
1:10–1:30 | Creating Trauma-Informed Environments
Practical strategies for emotional safety, de-escalation, clear expectations, healthy boundaries, offering choices, active listening, and avoiding retraumatization.
1:30–1:45 | The Power of Trusted Adults
Exploring the importance of consistency, mentorship, encouragement, advocacy, reliability, and following through on promises.
1:45–1:55 | Questions and Audience Discussion
Participants discuss how trauma-informed practices can be used within their schools, agencies, organizations, workplaces, and communities.
1:55–2:00 | Closing Message and Call to Action
A final message about combining understanding and compassion with accountability, safety, structure, and appropriate support.
